Tiffany remained on FBI as Special Agent Stuart Scola‘s field partner for four seasons before her exit in Season 7.

News broke of Kane’s exit from FBI in August 2024. In a statement to Deadline confirming her departure, Kane explained that she left the series to pursue other career opportunities.“It was time to look towards new creative endeavors. I’m excited for the future and wish the show all the best,” she said.

Kane’s statement also came at the same time as news that Lisette Olivera, best known for her role on the Disney Plus TV series National Treasure: Edge of History, was joining FBI as a series regular. Olivera plays Syd, a trained Behavioral Analysis Unit Agent who takes over as Scola’s field partner after Tiffany’s exit. “Even though Syd’s work experience has been as a desk agent, there are layers to her personality and resume that will allow her to hit the streets as a field agent seamlessly,” sources told Deadline.

Why is Tiffany Wallace leaving FBI?

The Season 7 premiere episode, “Abandoned,” started with viewers learning that Tiffany had already given her notice to the FBI about her resignation due to the emotional toll the Hakim case took on her mental health. “It makes sense to need some time off.. [But] this does not have to be permanent,” Tiffany’s FBI partner Stuart Scola told her, to which Tiffany responded, “Scola. Have you ever talked me out of anything? Ever? Once? Ever?”

She added, “Sorry, but there’s nothing more dangerous than having a partner who didn’t want to be in the field anymore, but stuck around anyway.” At the end of the episode, Special Agent Maggie Bell suggests that she and Tiffany get drinks the next week before Tiffany tells her that she was moving to Georgia to be closer to her sister. When asked by Maggie why she decided to leave the FBI, Tiffany explained:“It wasn’t any one thing. I just wanted closure. I thought I’d get that after Hakim was gone; I didn’t.”

John Boyd, who plays Scola, hinted to Cinemablend ahead of FBI Season 7’s premiere that Tiffany left FBI simply because she didn’t want to do the job anymore. “Scola is in a little bit of denial. I don’t think he’s really ready for what is about to change in his world. He’s thinking maybe Tiff, this is nonsense about her leaving and not wanting to do the job anymore. I don’t think he really understands what’s happening in his world fully, but he ends up losing his partner and saying goodbye to a partner,” he said.

He continued, “It’s a pretty big change for him. Going forward, him figuring out who he is as an agent and who’s right for him and who’s wrong for him as a partner is going to be [fun]. It’s a fun, fun thing to explore. “

FBI showrunner Mike Weiss also confirmed to Cinemablend that Tiffany’s exit from the series was Kane’s choice and not the writer’s team.“There’s always a risk and things happen, but we really crossed our fingers, because she’s such a great character, such a great actress as well, and the dynamic is so important, we thought, between Scola and Tiff. It would have been a real shame if we couldn’t give them a proper goodbye,” he said.

Fans shouldn’t be too surprised by Tiffany’s exit from FBI and her desire to retire as a special agent. Most of her storyline in Season 7 revolved around the death of special agent and intelligence analyst Trevor Hobbs, who dies in the Season 6 premiere episode, “All the Rage,” after Hobbs went undercover with Tiffany on a mission while Scola was out. While on the assignment, Hobbs went to the bathroom where he started a conversation with a stranger, who began questioning Hobbs and learned he was a cop when he grabbed him and saw his gun. Before Hobbs could react, the man shot him.

Tiffany, who came in too late to save Hobbs and saw him die in her arms, blamed herself for his death. Prior to the mission, Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge, Jubal Valentine, warned Tiffany that Hobbs was rusty as a special agent but she ignored him. After Tiffany identified the shooter as a man named Hakim Siran, the season continued with her trying to find Hakim to get vengeance for Hobbs’ death. The Season 6 finale, “Ring of Fire,” ended with Tiffany and the FBI finally catching Hakim and getting closure for Hobbs’ murder.

Despite the satisfying end to Season 6, fans speculated that Tiffany could be retiring as a special agent for the FBI due to the emotional baggage that comes from the job, which would explain her leaving the FBI in Season 7.

FBI is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
